Have to revise trial brief for first issue, but am going to save that for later today.  God. I hate waiting until the last minute, but I never know how to write these suckers. So I...

Kinda forgot one thing...
In addition to this damn brief, I have a legal research assignment that I haven’t touched yet. So I won’t be done for break at 5 p.m. tomorrow, because I have to do that assignment and get it to the profs somehow Friday morning… I WILL BE DONE WITH THE BRIEF THOUGH! 18 HOURS.

scndhanddreams replied to your post: 21 hours. you get a 2 week spring break?? Yes. They’re spoiling us with breaks this semester (not that it matters much with the gluttony of legal writing and research). Last semester we only got the week of Thanksgiving off.

portlypenguin replied to your post: Great. Well, he does if he isn’t working full time otherwise. I was always so jealous of my part-time classmates who didn’t work, since most of us did. I asked him if he has a job we need to work around for exchanging briefs. He told me no. So the lucky guy has had more time to work on his brief than me. Which is why I say “great.”

Great.
So my oral argument partner sent me an email today, about serving briefs on one another, and told me he’s a part-time student. The lucky guy has more time on his hands than me!  Color me frustrated, please.

Well.
Not feeling so hot today, generally exhausted and sick to my stomach in that vague way, you know? I’m not nauseous, just nauseated. This should make today interesting.  Oh, and I get to spend the whole day working on my appellate brief again. Woo! NOT.

Okay, maybe worthwhile.
Why? Talking with guy next to me. The snark factor alone is the only repeat reason I go to class. Girl who I dislike giving all the wrong answers when on call. Obvious she didn’t do the reading. Planning to do bingo in class on Thursday.  The only class today! Now that I’m back at my apartment I get to wear sweats, ditch the shoes (and bra, sorry to any male readers, but they...

The only reason I’m not sleeping through today’s 8 a.m. (only class) is that I stayed up doing the reading. Don’t ask me how I justify this. Could have just slept, but NO. Had to do the reading AND go to class. Ugh.

I mean, I did accomplish stuff today
I outlined the brief a little bit. I read the last case. I stopped searching for new cases (this is a big step, trust me). I just don’t know how to start writing the thing.  Going to work on that later today, after I sleep, hit up classes, come back, and nap. In theory, of course.

Today its’ kick is being sick and having insomnia and just generally being terrible. Can I put this on hold until Friday?! I have a brief to write.

"The U.S. is #1 in _____"
You’re going to see/read/hear that phrase a lot in the upcoming months, with the general election fast approaching and the rhetoric of all political candidates picking up steam. I was bouncing around CNN’s politics website today and saw it in a few different articles. To say that this statement is inaccurate is barely skimming the top of how wrong it is. Look at any comparative...

Bad form, CPC
I did an interview with the local prosecutor’s office (the one where he told me they’d hire 2Ls over 1Ls) and got the follow-up email to that today. As expected, didn’t get an externship. What annoys me, is that they sent me not one email, but THREE. Within nine minutes of one another. Bad enough that I didn’t get it, which, while understandable, sucks. I don’t need...

Insert whining here
eindenker: Why have I not talked to IRL friends in ages? I know I’m supposed to try and talk to people too, but I’d appreciate it if people didn’t act like I stopped existing once I graduated in December. Done whining now. And then my neighbor calls
But that was okay, I was in the midst of putting laundry/dishes away, so talked to her for 20 minutes and that woke me up enough that I’m reading torts now. The days that I read for torts usually turn out to be really awesome, so I’m hoping that trend continues and tomorrow is a good day. Plans are to go to classes, read for con law, then work on my appellate brief while taking a break...

I'm going to call it a night.
Running short on sleep (yeah, that’s a big deal to me, so don’t tell me to suck it up), am generally disappointed with myself and the state of my appellate brief, and I was drinking liquor on an empty stomach.  Yeah.  Shower, bed, Netflix until I fall asleep, up early tomorrow to read for property and torts, then spending the afternoon/evening on the appellate brief until I pass...

And again
I’m just never going to get a draft done earlier than the night before it’s due. Since this time around requires extra organization, creating a table of contents and other appellate brief idiosyncrasies, I’ve set a self-imposed deadline of Tuesday night. Which means tonight, tomorrow, and Tuesday I’ll be working on this sucker at all hours. I’m so ready to be done...

lizbert replied to your post: A little snapshot of my life Oncale is my favorite because of Scalia’s “reasonably comparable evils” language… ie the opposite of the entire rest of his body of jurisprudence. A little snapshot of my life
The “History” function on Westlaw shows me that I have run something like 15 searches in the last week. Hundreds of cases pull up, but only a handful are close to what I need in terms of procedural posture (SJ granted for employer, appellate reverses), and then they narrow down even more as I look at the facts. I hate it when I find a case and the analysis is spot on, but the...

Mk.
Went to bed at 2 after reading cases and trying to figure out which I could use for REs in appellate brief. I only found 1 case, and it’s not even in my circuit, so either I use that case twice, or I do a contrasting RE (which our prof discouraged us from doing).  Or I can spend ANOTHER morning running fruitless searches on WestlawNext and maybe begging one of the guys in my TA group for...

I'm starting to drag and am feeling run down
But I’m nowhere near close to being done with homework. Which means I’ve pulled up documentaries about Special Forces training to show me that at least my second level of education doesn’t leave me sore, hurt, and puking. I’m tired, but nowhere as tired as those guys are. Using a very extreme ruler to compare my situation, but it’s working. It also doesn’t hurt...
